The HIPAA Cloud Throwdown

A 2026 showdown of AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud — who’s truly HIPAA-ready for healthcare apps, compliance, and cost-efficiency?

Which Cloud Wins HIPAA in 2026? by HIPAA Vault

Cloud decisions for healthcare aren’t just about speed or scale — they’re about compliance. In 2026, your cloud’s HIPAA readiness could make or break your app’s future.

On a recent episode of the HIPAA Insider Show, Gil Vidalis (HIPAA Vault) and Adam Zenedine broke down AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud through a compliance-first lens.

The takeaway? Google Cloud is the best fit for clinics, startups, and lean teams. It’s ~20% cheaper, integrates cleanly with Google Workspace, and ships with secure-by-default features. AWS is still the go-to for enterprise-scale flexibility, and Azure fits best in Microsoft-heavy environments.

Quote of the Week: “Compliance is a responsibility, not a feature.” — Gil Vidalis

Breach Alert: Healthcare’s Latest HIPAA Headaches

Two new data breaches are sending a fresh reminder that healthcare orgs can’t afford to snooze on cybersecurity.

First up: Ennoble Care & Circa Health, a NJ-based provider offering palliative and primary care across nine states, discovered a breached email account back in April. The exposed data includes names, addresses, birthdates, hospice status, and care orders. So far, their EHR system appears untouched — but the investigation is ongoing, and affected patients are being urged to stay alert for fraud.

Meanwhile in Massachusetts, Dermatology Associates of Concord reported a separate attack in September, when an unauthorized party accessed and copied data from internal systems. The file review is still in progress, but DAC is offering affected patients 24 months of credit monitoring and fraud assistance.

These breaches might be in different states — but the warning is universal.

Ransomware’s Favorite Currency? Crypto, Every Time.

Cryptocurrency isn’t just funding moon missions and meme coins — it’s become the payment method of choice for cybercriminals, fueling an epidemic of healthcare ransomware attacks.

A new report from HIPAA Journal lays out the evolution: from CryptoLocker in 2013 to today’s $1M+ ransom demands, it’s clear that anonymous digital cash has made ransomware attacks faster, bigger, and more lucrative. Double extortion tactics (encrypt + leak) now dominate, and cybercrime-as-a-service models thrive — all thanks to the ease of crypto payments.

But it’s not just the currency. With IoT vulnerabilities, AI-powered malware, and outdated inventories across healthcare, attack surfaces are expanding faster than orgs can patch.

Even the best firewalls can’t stop a phish if your staff isn’t trained to spot it.

💰 Check out how crypto and ransomware became healthcare’s worst nightmare — and what security leaders can do to fight back.
